Art Assistant job, Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine, Bristol

Immediate Media is looking for an Art Assistant to join the team at Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine in Bristol.

This role will support the Art Editor in the smooth running of every aspect of layout, design, location and studio photography and repro.

It will also include general administrative tasks within the art department.

Day-to-day tasks include:
  • Responsible for laying out pages, usually these are the regular sections of the magazine
  • Ensure all marketing, promotional and online material is designed on time and on brief. This includes material for the website, social media and the subscriptions pages and inserts, which the marketing department require, so the branding of your magazine stays consistent within all departments
  • Assist with location and studio photography: including helping to shop for props and set up styled and flat shots
  • Photoshop work, occasional picture research and simple surface pattern design
  • Carrying out various administrative tasks as required by the Art Editor

Production and repro responsibilities:

  • Help in sending pages to repro – including colour correction and ensuring images are high-resolution
  • Archiving each issue onto DVD; including all pages, PDFs and images. Low-res and high-res PDFs must also be sent to our DAM (Digital Asset Management) team for syndication
  • Liaising with other departments, such as online, in order to provide creative input into their work and to supply them with any material for online promotion and editions, as required

  • Learn and use the operating practices of team and company in order to best contribute to the development and progress of both
  • Share your creative experience and knowledge wherever possible by contributing advice to other Designers and Art Assistants throughout the company and working on company projects, whether ad hoc informally or through a more formal mentoring or secondment process
 Qualifications & training required:
  • Of graduate calibre with relevant, high-level design qualifications
  • Trained in the use of relevant software such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Surface pattern design and illustration experience highly desirable

Abilities & qualities required:

  • Superb eye for detail in design, creative flair and a commercial awareness of the role of design in selling magazines
