Digital frailty, the phenomenon where digital assets or archives are broken or lost when a website is taken offline or when news organisations merge, was highlighted by Future Today Institute as one of the technology trends journalists should watch in 2018. So how can we ensure our online work doesn’t get lost?

Check out this article from Nieman Lab, in which deputy editor Laura Hazard Owen outlines three tools for digital reporters to preserve their work in case a website is shut down, as was the case recently with local news outlets Gothamist and DNAinfo.

Among her recommendations is Save My News, a tool launched this month that journalists can use to save their links to Internet Archive and WebCite, as well as to download their clips and archive links as an Excel spreadsheet.
